Jabra Elite Sport Review - Apple AirPod Alternative?

Jabra Elite Sport Review

Love music? Love sport? This pair of wireless earphones by Jabra offer a range of different features to make your music experience even better. The idea of wireless has been advancing rapidly in recent years, and since the release of the Apple AirPods many companies have been jumping on the bandwagon and manufacturing their own alternatives.

To start these wireless earphone come in at £229.99, approximately $300 so in comparison to the Apple AirPods priced at £159 these are quite a pricey alternative. However, the Jabra Elite Sport offer a range of different features that stand them apart from the AirPods, making this product more suited for the fitness enthusiast. Features include an in-ear heart rate monitor which is very precise offering very accurate readings and a very clever use of a companion application that allows you to plan workouts, allow with monitoring them as you go.

Jabra Elite Sport Review

Compared to an average pair of wired earphones this wireless pair are quite chunky in the ear, however due to this size and design they do fit very comfortably and after a while you don't even feel they are there. I have never been the biggest fan of the 'gummy' types earphone, as I always find them to become slightly painful after wearing them for long periods of time, therefore I prefer Apple's EarPods alternatives, however with this AirPods alternative comes with three different sizes of EarWings and EarGels allowing you to really customise the feel and fit of your earphones. Also the EarGels provided come in two forms, silicone and foam providing the user with varied levels of customisation.

Since we are becoming more and more reliant on technology, battery life is a must for technology enthusiast like me, and with this pair of earphones they give you up to 13.5 hours of charge, which I haven't been able to fully reach, however I would say that they would easily stand up to an adequate amount of use from an average user.

Jabra Elite Sport Review

The case allows two additional charges to the wireless earphones which can extend their battery life for another six hours of playback. A very good feature about the Elite Sport's is that they support fast charging therefore 15 minutes of charge will give you an hours worth of playback. The case is charged though a micro-usb and does support charging through portable charges.

The quality of audio from these small earphones is very good, it hits high notes really well and has all-round audio functionality, however if I could improve one thing that would be the base. Slight tweaks in the low levels would make these earphone pack and even bigger punch, and would defiantly make them a rival contender with Apple.

Jabra Elite Sport Review

Another feature that was brilliant, was the fact that if you have accidentally misplaced a wireless earphone then using the companion app, you can locate them using the built in GPS in the earphones. This makes the common concern of losing wireless earphones less worrying as you know that you can always locate them.

Personally, I would really recommend the Jabra Elite Sport wireless earphones, however I do feel that a slight reduction in the price would allow them to really compete against the Apple AirPods. They are a brilliant all-rounder with some very neat features.

Apple Announcement

So today marks the day that Apple have made a big announcement. They are changing products and also adding some products to their vast line-up of devices and accessories.

Normally, Apple hold a big press conference to release all of this information, but this time they kept it much more low-key and stuck with a few updates on their website.

Apple are now only going to be selling the iPad Mini, new 9.7 inch iPad or the 9.7 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

The new 9.7 inch iPad, carries a slightly thicker design, about the same as the original iPad Air, but boasts the A9 chip which is the same one as found in the iPhone 6s.

NOTE 7 Explained

Over the last few months Samsung have been in the news regarding the mishaps that occurred with the release of their Galaxy Note 7. When this device first came out, it had a very large following from people who were fans of it's previous generations, but then many users started coming across issues with their devices, putting others off.

These issues came in the form of overheating batteries, resulting in the devices catching alight and burning out. These reports soon got publicised by the media, and originally Samsung thought that this may just be the select few devices with issues, but the reports kept appearing.

This public attention resulted in a global recall for the Note 7 devices after they were deemed too unsafe for consumer use. Moreover the dangers caused by the Note 7 then resulted in many airline companies banning it from flights, causing a lot of inconvenience for many loyal Samsung users.

After this media uproar, Samsung issued a global recall for the device, resulting in investors wiping $19 billion off Samsung's value and a fall of 9 per cent in stock value, allowing Apple's stocks to rise by 2 per cent.

Today Samsung confirmed that the faults in the device was caused by a fauly battery, which has also slowed the release of the Note 8. Lets hope that Samsung finally sort out this issue.

Sony Xperia XZ Review

With a device that is set to compete against the LG G5 and Samsung's Galaxy S7, what can we expect? I am working with Vodafone to bring you a review of the Sony Xperia XZ, a sleek, powerful device.

Currently, the Sony Xperia XZ is retailing for £479.99 which is comparable to both its LG and Samsung rivals priced at £329.99 and £458.95 as of 17th January. I do feel that this device is worth this amount, but to make it an even value for money, I would like to see some unique features that other smartphone companies have not yet implemented into their devices.

Sony are renowned for packing cameras with very high megapixels, and powerful sensors into their devices, and they have not disappointed with the Xperia XZ. This devices comes with a 23-megapixel rear camera, and a 13-megapixel front camera perfect for all of those holiday selfies!

Here is an un-edited photograph taken on the 23-megapixel rear camera, and as you can see that quality is fantastic. Firstly, the image is very sharp, allowing you to see all of the details of the grains of wood on the bird box. Moreover, one interesting feature about the camera app on this device is that it allows you to be able to manually change the settings such as the focus, shutter speed and the white balance. Additionally, this device allows ISO of up to 12,800, making it fantastic to capture images and video in low light environments. On to the note of video, the XZ records 4K video, meaning that you can create stunning pieces of art.

In combination with the XZ's camera quality, you are going to need quite a large amount of space to store all of the photographs and video, and this is helped by the 32GB of internal storage, cupeled with a up to 256GB extendable storage in the form of a micro SD card. In addition, the Xperia XZ is charged through a USB-C connector, allowing for very fast transfer speeds between the XZ and your device. The use of the USB-C also allows for quick charging of the 2900 mAh battery. I have found through testing that this battery can easily last up to four days if the device is sat idle, just receiving slow notifications, and will last approximately a day on a full charge.

One thing that I have noticed particularly whilst testing out the Sony Xperia XZ, and that is the speed that it runs at. With a Snapdragon 820 processor and 3GB RAM, this device allows you to seamlessly run multiple apps, as well as recording videos effortlessly.

And finally, you can view all of this from the crystal clear images, to the numerous games and apps on a 5.2 inch full HD display, meaning that you will be able to see every bit of detail thanks to this generous display.

The Sony Xperia XZ is available from the following retailers.

Amazon    Vodafone    PC World

Thank you to Vodafone for sending me out this device to review.
